What Is SEEDS?

SEEDS stands for the Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy. It is a nonprofit organization founded by professionals in the egg donation and surrogacy industry who recognized a critical need: the families and individuals who rely on third-party reproduction deserve to work with providers who are held to a higher standard.

In an industry where the stakes could not be higher, where intended parents entrust their most vulnerable hopes to the professionals guiding their journey, SEEDS exists to ensure that ethics are not merely aspirational. They are enforceable. SEEDS creates and promotes a framework of ethical standards that govern how surrogacy agencies, fertility attorneys, medical providers, mental health professionals, and other key players conduct their work.

At its core, SEEDS is a community of professionals who believe that doing things the right way is not a competitive advantage. It is a shared obligation.

What It Means to Be a SEEDS Member

SEEDS membership is not automatic. It is earned through a rigorous application and review process, and it carries real obligations that members must meet and maintain.

To become a SEEDS member, a professional organization must:

Carry professional liability insurance with minimum coverage of $1 million
Maintain a transparent public presence, including the names and photos of principal owners
Read, agree to, and actively abide by the SEEDS Standards of ethical practice
Be a legitimately registered business actively operating in the United States
Participate in ongoing education through the SEEDS Education Committee

Membership is reviewed by the SEEDS Membership Committee, and approval is never guaranteed. Organizations that do not meet the standards are not admitted. This selectivity is precisely what gives SEEDS membership its meaning.

Once a member, organizations are expected to stay current, contribute to the field, and hold themselves accountable to the same ethical benchmarks they agreed to uphold. Membership is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time credential.
