For many people, the summer is a time to relax and unwind as the hectic pace of life slows down. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about personal injuries. Regardless of the season, personal injuries occur and can change your life in an instant. Following are some of the common summer personal injury claims that we see:

Car Accidents

In 2023, there were 394,826 crashes on Florida’s roadways, injuring 252,217 individuals and killing 3,419 others . Florida’s crowded roadways are a major contributor to these accidents. Additionally, another factor that can impact car crashes is the experience level of car drivers. During the summer, teenagers have more free time and may drive more than during the school year, increasing the number of inexperienced drivers on the road. Florida’s summertime afternoon rainstorms can also lead to accidents. While the storms tend to be quick, they are intense, significantly reducing visibility, making the roads slippery, and causing traffic to slow down, all of which can cause car accidents.

Boating Accidents

Spending the day on the water with friends and family is a favorite summer pastime in South Florida. However, last year, 659 boating accidents occurred in Florida, resulting in 408 injuries and 59 deaths . Someone operating a boat needs to exercise the same level of care as operating a land-based vehicle – paying attention at all times, not drinking any alcohol, and staying aware of weather conditions. If a boat operator shirks their responsibilities, they can cause accidents, injuries, and even deaths. Another cause of personal injuries on a boat is a lack of safety gear, such as life jackets and throwable flotation devices.

Swimming Pool Accidents

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that every day, 11 people die from drowning and another 22 experience a nonfatal drowning . In fact, downing is the leading cause of death among children ages one through four . Pool owners must take steps to ensure the safety of all visitors to their pool. Fencing must surround a pool to prevent a small child from accidentally wandering in. Additionally, the pool equipment must be in working condition, and the lifeguard or homeowner must ensure that everyone is behaving responsibly on the pool deck.
